EPIPHANY BLESSING OF HOMES 2019

FSSP Priest blessing a parishioners home (inscription with chalk)

Please ask your local priest to use the Roman Ritual and perform the Epiphany House Blessing on your home. The ceremony is in the Roman Ritual, and the English translation is below for you to follow along. All Catholic priests may use the traditional Roman Ritual pursuant to Summorum Pontificum, without seeking any type of permission. The only blessing of Epiphany water in the State of Georgia will take place at St Francis de Sales, in Mableton Ga. on Saturday January 5th (Vigil of the Epiphany) at 6:00 o'clock pm. The chalk and incense used in the blessing are actually blessed on the day of the Epiphany. For directions to the church see http://stfrancisdesalesatl.com/

BLESSING OF HOMES  During the Season of Epiphany
It is that time of year for your priest to come to your home and bless your house during the Octave of the Epiphany. He will use the Epiphany water blessed at vespers on the Vigil of the Epiphany and the chalk and incense blessed on the Feast of the Epiphany. Here is the English translation of the ritual.
( Please note the Father of the House will lead the priest from room to room with a lighted blessed candle-also all who enter for the first time after the blessing do so with their right foot)

As the priest comes into the home he says:
P: God's peace be in this home.
All: And in all who live here.
P. Ant.: Magi from the East came to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; and opening their treasure chests they presented Him with precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial. Alleluia.
Canticle of the Magnificat
Luke 1.46-55
P: "My soul * extols the Lord;
All: And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Savior.
P: How graciously He looked upon His lowly maid! * Oh, see, from this hour onward age after age will call me blessed!
All: How sublime is what He has done for me, * the Mighty One, whose name is 'Holy'!
P: From age to age He visits those * who worship Him in reverence.
All: His arm achieves the mastery: * He routs the haughty and proud of heart.
P: He puts down princes from their thrones, * and exalts the lowly;
All: He fills the hungry with blessings, * and sends away the rich with empty hands.
P: He has taken by the hand His servant Israel, * and mercifully kept His faith,
All: As He had promised our fathers * with Abraham and his posterity forever and evermore."
P: Glory be to the Father.
All: As it was in the beginning.
Meanwhile the home is sprinkled with holy water and incensed. At the end of the Magnificat the antiphon is repeated. Then the priest says Our Father (the rest inaudibly until:)
P: And lead us not into temptation.
All: But deliver us from evil.
P: Many shall come from Saba.
All: Bearing gold and incense.
P: Lord, heed my prayer.
All: And let my cry be heard by you.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: May he also be with you.
Let us pray.
God, who on this day revealed your only-begotten Son to all nations by the guidance of a star, grant that we who now know you by faith may finally behold you in your heavenly majesty; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
Responsory: Be enlightened and shine forth, O Jerusalem, for your light is come; and upon you is risen the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary.
P: Nations shall walk in your light, and kings in the splendor of- your birth.
All: And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
Let us pray.
Lord God almighty, bless + this home, and under its shelter let there be health, chastity, self-conquest, humility, goodness, mildness, obedience to your commandments, and thanksgiving to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May your blessing remain always in this home and on those who live here; through Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

Bless each room with incense and Epiphany Water. Write the Magi’s initials, connected by Crosses, and the year’s numbers over the exterior doors with the blessed chalk, like this:

LATIN MASS ENDS IN AUGUSTA THIS SUNDAY

Father Renaurd West, Sacred Ministers, and Servers

The next and LAST Latin mass in Augusta will be at 1:00 pm this Sunday November 4th  2018. This is the LAST SCHEDULED MASS in the Augusta area. Father West is putting the Latin Mass on hold and has not scheduled any future masses after Sunday. Support for the Latin Mass has been sporadic and unpredictable. If the Faithful Catholics in the Augusta area want the Latin Mass to resume then they must contact Father West and be willing to support it in order for Father to consider bringing it back. It is critical that everyone attend this Sundays mass and bring friends with you, if not then tradition will end in east Georgia. It has been a long hard fight to restore tradition to east Georgia and Father West has gone beyond the call of duty and gone out of his way to accommodate the serious Catholics in the Augusta area. Father West already says 4 novus ordo Sunday masses and it is unfair to him to ask him to say a 5th extra traditional mass when there is lack of sufficient support. It would be a shame to loose this precious gem.

Our Lady of Peace 1:00 pm LOW MASS
856 Old Edgefield Rd
North Augusta SC 29841

There will be a reception afterwards for Catholics to meet other traditional Catholics who are serious about their Faith. Please come and thank Father for what he is doing and ask him to continue celebrating the Traditional Mass. Please bring a snack to share to the reception. If you would like to help out in any way by ushering, helping with the after mass social, singing in the schola, altar serving etc., please contact Dr. Seiters at: thomas.j.seiter@gmail.com

INDULGENCE OF ALL SOULS DAY AND OCTAVE

Between Noon of ( All Saints Day) November 1 and Midnight of All Souls day ( Nov 2nd) , a person who has been to confession and Communion can gain a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, for the poor souls each time he visits a church or public oratory and recites the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory be to the Father six times. This is a special exception to the ordinary law of the Church according to which a plenary indulgence for the same work can be gained only once a day.

Also, the faithful who, during the period of eight days from All Saints Day, visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, on each day of the Octave, applicable only to the dead. Here is a simple invocation for the dead, called the "Eternal Rest" prayer:

English translation:
Eternal rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him/her (them). May he/she (they) rest in peace. Amen.

Latin:
Réquiem ætérnam dona ei (eis) Dómine; et lux perpétua lúceat ei (eis). Requiéscat (Requiéscant) in pace. Amen.
Catholics also pray this prayer for the dead anytime throughout the year, and whenever they pass a cemetery. Many families pray a Rosary nightly for the dead throughout the Octave of All Souls, replacing the Fatima prayer with the Eternal Rest prayer

NEW WEEKLY LATIN MASS ANNOUNCED AT PARISH IN SAVANNAH DIOCESE -UPDATED

Image result for st anne's catholic church richmond hill ga
Saint Anne's Catholic Church Richmond Hill
UPDATE:
BELOW IS A REPORT FROM FATHER MCDONALD FOLLOWING HIS FIRST MASS AT HIS PARSH THIS WEEK:I began our every Tuesday Low Mass in the Ancient Form yesterday at St. Anne Church. It's at 6 PM. I gave a brief homily on the difference between the two forms of the one Latin Rite.I encouraged the congregation to take part in the spoken parts of the Mass that the altar boy (in our case altar man) says. And they did very well. But I emphasized that the actual participation in the EF Mass is more contemplative, much like Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Each person brings his or her own prayer to Mass, their own needs and the needs of their loved ones and acquaintances as well as the needs of the local, national and worldwide communities and Church.

Therefore in the EF Mass, silence is not something added to the Mass when nothing else is being said, but there is silence in the midst of the Church most public prayer, especially at the offering of the Roman Canon.

The priest offers the Canon in a low voice and we join his silence to our own in wonder and awe.

And since only the Roman Canon is used in this form of the Mass, everyone should know what it his without hearing it. They should pray it apart from Mass and thus will not need a worship aid such as a hand missal to follow the priest.

They should gaze upon the altar as the priest offers the canon in the Person of Christ, Head of the Church. Allow the sign language of the priest, his arm motions, bows, genuflection, kisses of the altar, the bells be a powerful "spoken" Word to their hearts as the Canon is prayed.

This quiet can be disconcerting if our only experience is the business and noises of the Ordinary Form with words and more words and more words shouted at us rather than offered exclusively to God.

Yes, the world needs more silence. It's too noisey and to quote Pope Francis, via the Second Vatican Council:

"Refuse to give free course to the instincts of violence and hatred which beget wars and all their train of miseries. Be generous, pure, respectful and sincere, and build in enthusiasm a better world than your elders had."

I might add, make silence a form of your own spirituality with you contemplatively and thus actually participation in the holy of holies as though behind an iconostasis.

By the way, could you just imagine if the silent Roman Canon were added to the OF Mass with no other changes, how much more prayerful it would be for the holy people of God?

Great News, Father McDonald, pastor of the parish in Richmond Hill ( Savannah Diocese) announced today that he will celebrate a low mass every Tuesday at his parish at 6:00 pm. The Mass will be celebrated in the Martha and Mary chapel of the church. The mass will begin on the Feast of the Guardian Angels on Tuesday October 2nd. Make sure you thank Father McDonald for doing this !!!!

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE FSSP

Important News from the FSSP
Yesterday, the Fraternity of St Peter began its 2018 General Chapter, which is being held this year at their American seminary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Denton, Nebraska. On the agenda are the elections of various leadership positions, mostly importantly, that of a new Superior General, since Fr John Berg, the American priest who has led them for the last twelve years, has now completed the second of the two six-year terms allowed by their constitutions. And of course, plans will be discussed for the growth of their established apostolates, with an eye to the gradual establishment of new ones. We encourage our readers to click over to this page of their website, where they can find the Latin and English text of prayers to the Holy Spirit which the FSSP has requested for the good success of the Chapter.

Fr Berg ends his term on as Superior General on a high note, with news of two new apostolates given to the Fraternity, on opposite ends of the United States. His Excellency Thomas Tobin, bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, has welcomed them to the church of St Mary, one of the oldest parishes in his episcopal city; the church is located at 538 Broadway, close to a highway which makes it easily accessible for most of south-eastern New England. The Fraternity will arrive at the church on August 1st; we will post further information about the Mass schedule as soon as we have it.

As reported on Corpus Christi Watershed, and the website Angelus News, His Excellency José Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, has established a personal parish dedicated to the traditional Mass at the church of St Vitus, located at 607 4th St in San Fernando, and placed it under the pastoral care of the Fraternity. It was offically opened on June 25th; click here for the schedule of services.

Palm Sunday at St Victor, the church which has hosted the FSSP in Los Angeles hitherto; from our first Palm Sunday photopost this year.
Our deepest thanks to Archbishop Gomez and Bishop Tobin for their pastoral sollicitude on behalf of the faithful attached to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, and our congratulations and best wishes to the Fraternity - ad multos annos!

Una Voce of Georgia Note: Una Voce members here in Georgia will recall all their hard work back in January 2016 when the FSSP had offered two priests to the Savannah Diocese to establish a traditional parish in the Savannah Diocese, however the offer was not accepted.
