ALL SOULS MASSES AND INDULGENCE

There is only one location in Georgia that will observe All Souls Day this year. There will be a solemn high Requiem Mass at the parish of St Francis de Sales in Mableton on All Souls Day (Monday November 3rd) at 7:30 pm. There will be 5 low masses that day spaced out all day long, so it will be easy to attend mass. As usual confessions are heard every day at this parish before every mass. This makes it easy to help earn the Plenary Indulgence available this day. Please note that Sunday November 2nd is the 21st Sunday After Pentecost- All Souls Day is transferred to Monday.

All SOULS INDULGENCE

The Month of the Holy Souls
The Faithful may gain a plenary/partial indulgence for the Poor Souls in early November. On All Souls Day itself, you can gain a plenary indulgence for the departed if you visit a parish church and recite the Pater Noster and the Credo. The usual 4 conditions apply ( see below). Besides visiting a church on All Souls day you can gain a plenary indulgence from November 1st through the 8th on the following conditions: a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls in Purgatory, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. Partial indulgences are granted to those who recite Lauds or Vespers of the Office of the Dead, and to those who recite the prayer, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.” According to the Enchiridion of Indulgences issued in 1999 by the Sacred Penitentiary, “To acquire a plenary indulgence, it is necessary to perform the work to which the indulgence is attached and to fulfill the following four conditions "These are always referred to as the usual conditions": sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, and prayer for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff. Finally it is further required that all attachment to sin, even venial sin, be absent.” The condition of sacramental confession may be fulfilled 20 days before or after the performance of the above-mentioned prayers. However, it is fitting that Communion be received and the prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions be said on the same day the work is performed. A single sacramental confession suffices for gaining multiple plenary indulgences, although Communion must be received and prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions must be recited for the gaining of each plenary indulgence.
