FSSP PRIEST ASSIGNMENTS AFFECT GEORGIA

NEW FSSP PRIEST ASSIGNED TO ARCHDIOCESE OF ATLANTA

The FSSP makes its yearly priest assignments each summer and this year it will affect the parish of Saint Francis de Sales in Mableton. First, thankfully, the pastor Father Robert Dow, FSSP will remain as pastor, however the assistant pastor Father James Smith FSSP as been assigned as the new chaplain of the FSSP apostolate in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. His replacement here will be Father Andrew Rapoport, FSSP. . These changes take place next week. Father Smith may be contacted at:

Mater Dei

110 State Street

Harrisburg PA  17101.

A short abridged bio of Father Rapoport  from his ordination announcement.

Father Rapoport is coming to us from the FSSP apostolate in  Post Falls Idaho. He was ordained in 2018 in Omaha Nebraska. He was born in San Jose California and grew up in San Luis Obispo. He studied Auto Technology in college. At school he became involved in the Newman Center. He then learned of the promise of Our Lady of Fatima and began saying a daily rosary, assisting at daily mass and spending time before the Blessed Sacrament.  He began to feel the distant call in his heart. In 2010 one day when he was kneeling before the Blessed Sacrament he felt a sudden urge to celebrate mass. Two weeks later a friend told him that he would make a good priest. About the same time he discovered the beauty of the traditional Latin Mass and after attending a sung Mass, he was struck by its beauty and he knew this was the mass that he wanted to celebrate. In 2011 Father entered the FSSP seminary in Denton Nebraska.

SAVANNAH BISHOP ISSUES LETTER

THE BISHOP OF SAVANNAH HAS ISSUED THE BELOW LETTER ON THE DIOCESE WEBPAGE

Feast of St. Mary Magdalene

Dear Friends in Christ,

On Friday, July 16, Pope Francis issued the motu proprio Traditionis Custodes, in which he established new guidelines for the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (also known as the Extraordinary Form*) for the worldwide Church. I encourage you to read the document and the letter to the Bishops of the world that accompanied it in their entirety.

I was introduced to the Mass in the Extraordinary Form after my Ordination as your Bishop, and I found great reverence and mystery there. In every celebration of the Mass – regardless of the Missal being used – it is my prayer that we are all drawn into the gift and mystery of the Real Presence of Christ.

Please join me in asking for the care of the Blessed Mother and the wisdom of St. Joseph while I, as your shepherd, discern the spirit of what Pope Francis is asking of us and determine the proper implementation of these guidelines across our Diocese. Until these decisions are made, Priests in the parishes already scheduled to offer Mass in the Extraordinary Form have permission to do so.

On this feast of St. Mary Magdalene, I am reminded of her words at the tomb: “They have taken my Lord away, and I do not know where they have put him.” Her confusion and despair soon gave way to great joy…rejoicing in the presence of the resurrected Lord. We place our trust and confidence in the Holy Spirit guiding our Church and her leaders to peace and joy.

Please be assured of my daily prayers for you, your loved ones and your intentions. May we meet each day in our prayers and Rejoice in the Lord always!

Most Reverend Stephen D. Parkes
Bishop of Savannah
