TRADITIONAL EPIPHANY WATER & TRADITIONAL EPIPHANY HOUSE BLESSING 2020

Blessing of Epiphany Water during Vespers on the Vigil

FSSP Priest Epiphany House Blessing using Blessed Chalk

EPIPHANY WATER BLESSING VIGIL OF EPIPHANY
The only place in Georgia where Epiphany water will be blessed will be on the Vigil of the Epiphany, Sunday January 5th starting at 5:30 pm. at St Francis de Sales in Mableton Georgia , Atlanta Diocese. The ancient blessing of Epiphany water is done during vespers on the eve of the great feast day. The blessing is long &; complex and the water is very powerful. This water is used during the Epiphany Blessing of homes that begin the following day and throughout the octave. Make sure any water containers you bring have your name on the container.

EPIPHANY HOME BLESSING
The only place in Georgia where you can have gold, incense, myrrh, and chalk blessed on the Epiphany will be at the parish of St Francis de Sales on Monday January 6th 2020, see web site below, for mass schedules for the Feast Day. Ask your local priest to use the Roman Ritual and perform the Epiphany House Blessing on your home. The ceremony is in the Roman Ritual, and the English translation is below for you to follow along. All Catholic priests may use the traditional Roman Ritual pursuant to Summorum Pontificum, without seeking any type of permission.

FOR DIRECTIONS AND MASS TIMES CLICK : https://fsspatl.com/

It is that time of year for your priest to come to your home and bless your house during the Octave of the Epiphany. He will use the Epiphany water blessed at vespers on the Vigil of the Epiphany and the chalk and incense blessed on the Feast of the Epiphany. Here is the English translation of the ritual.
( Please note the Father of the House will lead the priest from room to room with a lighted blessed candle-also all who enter for the first time after the blessing do so with their right foot)

As the priest comes into the home he says:
P: God's peace be in this home.
All: And in all who live here.
P. Ant.: Magi from the East came to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; and opening their treasure chests they presented Him with precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial. Alleluia.
Canticle of the Magnificat
Luke 1.46-55
P: "My soul * extols the Lord;
All: And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Savior.
P: How graciously He looked upon His lowly maid! * Oh, see, from this hour onward age after age will call me blessed!
All: How sublime is what He has done for me, * the Mighty One, whose name is 'Holy'!
P: From age to age He visits those * who worship Him in reverence.
All: His arm achieves the mastery: * He routs the haughty and proud of heart.
P: He puts down princes from their thrones, * and exalts the lowly;
All: He fills the hungry with blessings, * and sends away the rich with empty hands.
P: He has taken by the hand His servant Israel, * and mercifully kept His faith,
All: As He had promised our fathers * with Abraham and his posterity forever and evermore."
P: Glory be to the Father.
All: As it was in the beginning.
Meanwhile the home is sprinkled with holy water and incensed. At the end of the Magnificat the antiphon is repeated. Then the priest says Our Father (the rest inaudibly until:)
P: And lead us not into temptation.
All: But deliver us from evil.
P: Many shall come from Saba.
All: Bearing gold and incense.
P: Lord, heed my prayer.
All: And let my cry be heard by you.
P: The Lord be with you.
All: May he also be with you.
Let us pray.
God, who on this day revealed your only-begotten Son to all nations by the guidance of a star, grant that we who now know you by faith may finally behold you in your heavenly majesty; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
Responsory: Be enlightened and shine forth, O Jerusalem, for your light is come; and upon you is risen the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary.
P: Nations shall walk in your light, and kings in the splendor of- your birth.
All: And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
Let us pray.
Lord God almighty, bless + this home, and under its shelter let there be health, chastity, self-conquest, humility, goodness, mildness, obedience to your commandments, and thanksgiving to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May your blessing remain always in this home and on those who live here; through Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

Bless each room with incense and Epiphany Water. Write the Magi’s initials, connected by Crosses, and the year’s numbers over the exterior doors with the blessed chalk, like this:

Currently there are no Latin Masses anywhere in the country. Efforts are now underway to hopefully get this started in 2020. For any Una Voce members here in Georgia who would like to offer a note of encouragement please send mail to:

TRADITIONAL YOUNG CATHOLICS FROM 7 ATLANTA PARISHES VISITED THE SHRINE-UPDATED

groupshrine
JUVENTUTEM HAS THE FOLLOWING UPDATE ON THE BELOW ARICLE:
We have reserved twenty general admission tickets to the Braves VS. Giants game at Suntrust Park on the 21st of September. Follow the link to purchase your ticket. There are four additional tickets that are parking passes. Please only purchase this ticket if you are able to take at least three additional people with you. We have until the 5th of September to secure these tickets at this price. If we sell out of these tickets you can still join the event by purchasing your own tickets in the general admission sections. They are not assigned seats so you will still be able to sit with our group. You will also be responsible for your own parking, unless there is room in one of the five cars carpooling with parking passes.
CULLMAN—Young adults from St. Francis de Sales Parish and six other parishes made a pilgrimage Saturday to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama, part of the monastery founded by Mother Angelica of EWTN fame, and to the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, Alabama. The pilgrimage was organized by the Atlanta chapter of Juventutem International, which organizes monthly events for young adults ages 18 to 35 who have a devotion to or an interest in the traditional Latin Mass. Each month's activities include both a spiritual dimension and a social dimension."It was peaceful, it was beautiful. The silence especially spoke to me," said Tristan Smith, 25, who just moved to Atlanta from Washington, D.C.The group assembled for Mass at 7 am at St. Francis de Sales, received the special blessing for embarking on a pilgrimage, then drove with their chaplain, Fr. James M. Smith, FSSP, assistant pastor of St. Francis de Sales, in a 15-passenger van and four cars.
After lunch at Luna's BBQ in Hanceville, the group returned to the shrine to adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament exposed in the gloriously beautiful church, then recited the Divine Mercy chaplet with the cloistered sisters who live at the shrine. After some free time and a visit to the shrine's gift shop, they drove to Cullman to tour the Ave Maria Grotto.
While they drove, they heard a reading from  Humility of Heart by Fr. Cajetan de Bergamo, and sang the Rosary.
On Sept. 21, Juventutem Atlanta plans to attend a baseball game at SunTrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, who at press time remain in first place. Juventutem Atlanta organizer, Bryan Lester expects at least 20 people for next month's event, but urges all those planning to come to reserve their $15 tickets now before the Braves' dynamic pricing system causes the price to increase.
"I pray that our Blessed Mother would help us continue to grow the Church among our peers in Atlanta," Lester said. Those interested in attending the Braves game can contact Lester at juventutematlantat@gmail.com .

FSSP ESTABLISHED FIRST MILITARY CHAPLAINCY
It’s the first time it’s happened for our Fraternity: an apostolate in a military archdiocese, or in this case, a military ordinariate – the Military Ordinariate of Canada, to be exact. Fr. Kenneth Webb, FSSP, most recently the pastor of St. Aloysius Parish, our apostolate in the diocese of St. Catharines, Ontario, took up his new assignment as a full-time military chaplain stationed at the Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa) on August 1st. The Ordinariate works in much the same way as our Archdiocese for the Military Services, in that it is overseen by a bishop and, rather than being bounded by borders, extends to wherever members of the Canadian armed forces serve, at home or abroad. The chaplains who serve within it remain incardinated in their home dioceses or communities, but sometimes (unlike the US) they are incardinated in the ordinariate itself. In this case, Fr. Webb will remain a member of the Fraternity while serving full-time as a military chaplain.
Of course, the Fraternity is no stranger to military ministry, at least on the US side of the border – several of our parishes are situated close to US bases and hence count military families among their parishioners. But with Fr. Webb’s new assignment, a Fraternity priest will be serving for the first time as a full-time military chaplain on a military installation.

FSSP & YOUNG CATHOLICS OF ATLANTA DIOCESE TO MAKE A PILGRIMAGE

Wreckovation – The Radical Church Militant
The Shrine of Mother Angelica, Hanceville Alabama
JOIN THE FSSP & YOUNG FAITHFUL CATHOLICS 18-35 ON PILGRIMAGE TO THE SHRINE IN ALABAMA
This August 24th 2019 Juventutem Atlanta will be going on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville Alabama. The event will start with a Low Mass at St. Francis de Sales at 7:00AM. Afterwards we will leave together in a caravan to the Shrine. Once there, we will have lunch with a talk given by Father Smith. Lunch details are yet to be made. There are a few restaurants in the area and the Shrine has offered us a number of catering options that we may look into. There will be a tour, the John Paull II Eucharistic Tour, given at 2:00pm and an opportunity to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration in the Main Church at 3:00pm. Confession will be offered during the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
As for transportation, each person is responsible for his own transportation. Carpooling is encouraged. In order to secure a rental van similar to the one from the Stone Mountain trip, ten people would have to contribute $20 each before the 17th. This would give us enough time and funds to secure the van with either Budget or Enterprise for the day of the 24th. I may create a poll on the facebook page or website to get an idea of how many would be interested. We will keep everyone updated with any changes.
Depending on how everyone feels and the needs of the group we will have a few hours to decide when to leave. Given the change in time zones, if we leave the Shrine at 5:00PM CDT we wouldn't be getting back to St. Francis de Sales until 9:00PM EST even though its only a three hour drive.
If anyone has any questions, concerns, or suggestions feel free to email us or make a comment/post on facebook so we can discuss it. As Always, remember to pray for us as we are praying for you!

LOW MASSES ONLY ATLANTA DIOCESE FOR JULY & MASS TIMES CHANGES

NO HIGH MASSES FOR JULY AT ST FRANCIS DE SALES

The schola at St Francis de Sales in Mableton will take the month of July off for vacation, therefore ALL masses in July at this parish will be low masses.

ANNOUNCEMNT OF CHANGE IN MASS TIMES ATLANTA DIOCESE
Beginning today the Sunday Mass times at St Francis de Sales have changed. The reason for the change is because the parish has had a tremendous growth in parishioners and the church can no longer physically handle the large crowds at mass (and confessions before mass.) Hopefully this change will alleviate the overcrowding at church- but isn't this a nice problem to have ! The new mass times on Sunday are:

8:00 am low mass
9:30 am low mass
11:30 am high mass
Confessions on Sunday are at 7:15am , 9:00am & 10:30 am
CCD 10:40 am-11:25am

SAINT JOHN'S BONFIRE

Image result for saint johns bonfire
The parish of St Francis de Sales in Mableton (Atlanta Diocese)will have the annual Blessing of the bonfire for the Vigil of the Feast of The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist at 5:30 pm Saturday June 22th and invites all Catholic men to come (please note this is a MALE ONLY event-if you are a father you can bring your son)  The festivities are sponsored by the Knights of Columbus & Columbian Squires. Bring a lawn chair, we will cookout, smoke cigars, enjoy a beverage, and burn old sacramentals, sing and pray. Please bring a side dish to share. A FSSP priest will be in attendance for conversation. Immerse yourself in Catholic culture. For directions see https://stfrancisdesalesatl.com/

One of the most ancient blessings in the Roman Ritual is the Blessing of a bonfire on the Vigil of the Nativity of St John the Baptist. ( The Vigil is June 23rd). Pursuant to Summorum Pontificum you can ask your priest to utilize the Roman Ritual (in addition to the Missal &Breviary) and can ask him to perfom this blessing at your Church

If you are able to have your priest bless a bonfire here is the english translation of the Blessing for you to follow along:

 BLESSING OF A BONFIRE

on the Vigil of the Birthday of St. John the Baptist

conferred by the clergy outside of church

In the Church's veneration of her saints the cult of John the Baptist had from earliest times and continues to have a most prominent and honored place. John gave testimony of the true light that shines in the darkness, although he proclaimed in utter humility: "He must increase, but I must decrease." And the Master also spoke in highest praise of His precursor: "I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist." Attuned to the words of the Gospel the Christians of former times were filled with love and enthusiasm for this saint, and expressed a justifiable conviviality at the approach of his feastday by lighting a bonfire the night before in front of their churches, in the market-place, on the hilltops, and in the valleys. The custom of St. John bonfires, indicative of a people with unabashed and childlike faith, continues in some places to this day.

P: Our help is in the name of the Lord.

All: Who made heaven and earth.

P: The Lord be with you.

All: May He also be with you.
Let us pray.

Lord God, almighty Father, the light that never fails and the source of all light, sanctify + this new fire, and grant that after the darkness of this life we may come unsullied to you who are light eternal; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.

The fire is sprinkled with holy water; after which the clergy and the people sing the following hymn (for the music see the music supplement):

Hymn: Ut queant laxis

O for your spirit, holy John, to chasten

Lips sin-polluted, fettered tongues to loosen;

So by your children might your deeds of wonder

Meetly be chanted.

Lo! a swift herald, from the skies descending,

Bears to your father promise of your greatness;

How he shall name you, what your future story,

Duly revealing.

Scarcely believing message so transcendent,

Him for a season power of speech forsaketh,

Till, at your wondrous birth, again returneth,

Voice to the voiceless.

You, in your mother's womb all darkly cradled,

Knew your great Monarch, biding in His chamber,

Whence the two parents, through their offspring's merits,

Mysteries uttered.

Praise to the Father, to the Son begotten,

And to the Spirit, equal power possessing,

One God whose glory, through the lapse of ages,

Ever resounding.

P: There was a man sent from God.

All Whose name was John.
Let us pray.

God, who by reason of the birth of blessed John have made this

day praiseworthy, give your people the grace of spiritual joy,

and keep the hearts of your faithful fixed on the way that leads

to everlasting salvation; through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
