Farewell to the Cathedral Potluck
On July 31, after the last Traditional Mass at the Cathedral (for now), we will have a potluck in the parish hall which will spill out into the square. We have to be careful of the piano in cafeteria old Cathedral Day School cafeteria again, however we may not move the piano and be very careful of it.
Volunteers needed:
• A couple of people to coordinate to move tables and chairs - Much of the room is taken up by the choir area and so you may want to put a few tables outside the entrance from square and in the square
• Two or three families to help clean up after
Someone to bring
• Extra paper plates and napkins
• Ice and a cooler
• Water

LATIN MASS TRAINING FOR PRIESTS DECEMBER 12-16, 2022

Una Voce ANNOUNCES A NEW TRAINING COURSE THIS WINTER. Please recruit your local priest to attend the upcoming training session. It will be at the FSSP seminary in Nebraska. The cost is $400. The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, in collaboration with Una Voce America and the William C. Meier Foundation, testimonialsis the largest provider of training resources and materials for priests who wish to learn Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Established in June 2007, the Priest Training Program of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter has provided personal training for well over 165 priests from 115 different dioceses. Over 80% of participants in this program are now saying the Extraordinary Form on a regular basis.

Our five-day training workshops are hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska.  

Each workshop comprises a five-day residential course at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary including both classroom sessions and practical hands-on instruction. All instruction, training materials, meals, and room & board at the seminary are provided.

The Program:

Low & High Mass Workshop:

• A comprehensive introduction to the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and its liturgical principles
• An overview of the 1962 Roman Missal and liturgical calendar
• A complete explanation and demonstration, with practical hands-on instruction, in the ceremony of Low Mass according to the 1962 Roman Missal
• Tips and strategies for gaining proficiency in Latin
• An introduction to Sung Mass and Gregorian Chant
Sung Mass Workshop:
• Comprehensive hands-on instruction and training in the ceremonies of Sung and Solemn Mass
• Comprehensive overview and practice in the chants of the Sung Mass
• Complete training in all the altar server positions for Sung Mass

Costs:

• Low Mass Workshop $400 (includes $100 non-refundable deposit)
• Sung Mass Workshop $400 (includes $100 non-refundable deposit)
The cost of each workshop covers all classroom instruction, training materials, meals, and room & board at the seminary for the full five days.

LATIN MASS ABOLISHED IN THE SAVANNAH DIOCESE












SAVANNAH DIOCESE BANS THE LATIN MASS ANYWHERE IN THE DIOCESE EFFECTIVE MAY 20TH 2023

Una Voce South Georgia has sent us the sad news that the Bishop of Savannah will no longer allow the Latin Mass to be celebrated anywhere in the Diocese effective May 20th, 2023. MAIN EXCERPT OF BISHOPS LETTER

The Bishop said he wrote the Vatican about the Latin Mass in his Diocese and received the below letter banning the mass in his Diocese:

The Mass according to the Missale Romanum of 1962 may be celebrated at the parish of Sacred Heart (*) in Savannah on a weekly basis until May 20, 2023.

The Mass according to the Missale Romanum of 1962 may be celebrated at the parishes of Most Holy Trinity in Augusta, St. Joseph in Macon and St. Anthony of Padua in Ray City on a monthly basis until May 20, 2023.

* In implementing the permissions granted by the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, please note that the Mass according to the Missale Romanum of 1962 will no longer be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist as of Sunday, August 7, 2022. As of that date, the Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart parish (1707 Bull Street, Savannah) at 1pm on Sundays.

ENROLLMENT BROWN SCAPULAR

 

THIS SUNDAY ENROLLMENT IN THE BROWN SCAPULAR

Una Voce South Georgia has announced they have organized the ceremony for the Faithful to be enrolled in the brown scapular. This ceremony will be held after the 1:00 pm High Mass this Sunday at the cathedral in Savannah. Bring your brown scapular and knell at the altar rail after mass.
